December 16, 2010 - I saw my plastic surgeon for my 2nd follow up since surgery. I had to wait about 25 minutes for a 5 minute appointment but I wouldn't change my doctor for anything. She was happy to see how much the swelling has gone down. Both breasts are still swollen and my right one is swollen larger because of the traumatic surgery that was done. It will take about 4-6 weeks for the complete swelling to go away from surgery. She felt around the breast to make sure everything was okay.
She asked me how I like them so far. She mentioned silicone is suppose to be softer than my last implants and look more realistic like breasts. At this time, I do like these implants better. Yes, they have a softer feeling. She took a few pictures of each breast for her records.
I am still sore in my arm pit area so she said just be careful. I am cleared from my surgery but said I should wait until January before I start exercising again. Once in awhile, I get a shooting sharp pain in my breast that only last for a few seconds but enough for me to stop what I am doing. She said it's the fat settling and getting adjusted. The nerves will also start to grow back as time goes forward.
My stomach is still swollen as well and I only have two faded bruise marks which is great! There were no muscles in my stomach that were cut during surgery. I should continue to wear my compression shorts or my girdle until all the fluid is gone.
I was able to meet my wonderful friend, she's like a sister to me for lunch that I had to reschedule from the previous week. It was great to see her even for a short period of time. Life is too short not to take time out to take a breather once in awhile.
I feel great and it's still hard to think back and imagine everything I have been through. I look forward to no more surgeries but following up with my cancer doctors will be a part of my life and I have accepted that. I have great family and friends who helped me get through these difficult times. I keep strong, have a positive attitude,and have a mission to be here for my family now and for the future. This helped me stay focus and fight my breast cancer. I feel I made one of the best decision in my life; to remove my breasts. I wouldn't change my decision.

follow up with Plastic Surgeon from surgery
On December 9, 2010 I went to see my plastic surgeon for a follow up since my surgery. My appointment was at 12:15 but she was so busy that I didn't get to see her until 1:15. I do understand that she is so popular and this is the only office day she has to see patients but I had plans to have lunch with my close friend that I had to reschedule.
She removed all of my bandage's and cut a few stitches that were sticking out. My breast seemed large still because they are swollen and it should still go down. She didn't give me a time frame. My right breast that needed more work is larger than my left breast because of the surgery but will flatten down. As far as my left breast, I have a scar at the bottom of the breast where she removed my saline implant and replaced it with my silicone implant. At the top of this breast, I have one stitch where she added some fat tissue to make it look fuller. She did not have to replace my tissue around my implant on this side.On both breasts I had a single stitch underneath the breast towards the cleavage. This is where she injected fat from a different angle.
My right breast has a scar at the bottom of the breast as well where she removed the saline implant and replaced with the silicone implant. This side is more tender and the scar looks worse. She had to remove all my tissue that was around my implant.The tissue was hard and ruined from the radiation. She also had to remove all the tissue along my side, the margin where the radiation was given. If this didn't happened now she said I would of been in more pain down the road. This explains why I am real sore on this side. As far as the radiation, all of the tissue that was radiated has been removed but there is no guarantee that the radiation is completely gone. There will always be a small chance the radiation is still in my body. I can't stress or think about this situation and if that happens I will deal with it at that time.
As far as the nipples, nothing was changed on the outside of my skin on both breast. I don't have to wear the bra from the hospital anymore, I can wear what I like. She said everything looked real good. She made a statement that my breast look better than hers. We also spoke about some personal stuff about her. Even thou she is my doctor, she is forward and tells you the truth so when she said they look good, she means it from her heart. This must be so awarding for her to see her final work.
I mentioned that the girdle has been making my sides red. She wants me to continue to wear something to help reduce all of the swelling. I can wear the girdle, compression shorts, or even pantyhose with support at the stomach area. As far as my stomach area, it looks great besides the swelling. I told her I was surprise I didn't have much bruising. Everybody reacts different. I do have some bruising near each hip so I asked her if that is where she used her tools to extract the fat. She used the following analogy. If you get a black eye, under your eye gets black and blue. I was laying down on the operation table and the black and blue marks gravitate towards my hips.
My sister-in-law, her boyfriend, niece, my mom, my family and my in-laws went out to dinner to celebrate my father- in -law's 80TH B-Day. I didn't want to wear the girdle to be seen and I knew we would be sitting for a few hours. I had a pair of biking shorts that are form fitting so I wore them as the compression shorts. On a funny note, the bike shorts are extra padded in the private area. My husband said it must feel like I am wearing a pad, YUK. On a positive note through all these surgeries, I don't have to worry about the monthly friend!
Once in awhile I get sharp pains in both of my breast. It's the tissue/fat settling around my implants. I hope this heals fast. As far as recovery, I am not sure how long the swelling takes to go away. I will have to find out. I am suppose to still take it easy since my body needs to recover. No lifting any heavy items. That's where my family helps me with laundry, vacuuming, and when I go to the stores I ask for help if its a heavy item.
I had to find out how much fat was taken out of my stomach. any guesses................ about 2 lbs. Yes, I know some went back into my breast area but I hope more stayed out of my body!!!!!

It's still hard to know the true feeling of my new implants until I am healed. At this time, I am very pleased with them and I am glad I did go with the silicone.

surgery recovery
I am back. I have been busy getting everything ready for the holidays I have neglect blogging. I know alot of you have been asking about me and I appreciate all your kindness. Thank you for all the phone calls and texts. I forgot to mention some info from my previous blog: When I was being discharged from the hospital, the nurse handed me a card which looked exactly like a credit card with all the information about my implants. It had my name, date of surgery, doctor's name, breast implant size by cc, the company name for the implants along with the serial #'s. It was interesting because I didn't get this information with my last set of implants. They also let me take home a foam roller to use while I am sitting in a chair. Instead of having your arms hang down to put pressure where it hurts, you relax yours arms on the foam to help relieve the pressure. The foam is also good to elevate your legs.
First day after surgery 12/4/10
I was tired from the previous day. I took it easy all day. My kids had no activities on this day which is unusual so it was great that they everybody was home to help me if needed. I wrote my plastic surgeon an e-mail asking her if she can call in a prescription for Valium or something similar since I was having trouble sleeping. I was still in pain mainly on my right side of my body from my armpit down the side of my ribs. I felt a little discomfort around the both breasts. Emily went out shopping with my mom for awhile so it was good for her to get out of the house. She doesn't go places by herself too much so it was good that she went.
My plastic surgeon called and authorized some Valium for me. She explained that I had alot of scar tissue and the pain should get better each day. As far as the bleeding, it was from the liposuction. She went in through my belly button and through two of my existing scars from my hysterectomy near each side of my hips. She had to put in liquid into my stomach area before extracting the fat out. This helps loosen up the fat. The bleeding is normal from this procedure. The bleeding should stop within a day. It looks like my breast are bigger than previous which I don't want. My surgeon said they are swollen and she did fill in fat at the top of each breast and on the sides near my cleavage which I didn't have before. This will make the breast look like normal breast verses people knowing I have implants. Which I am not ashamed to talk about my implants but its nice that she makes you look as normal as possible.
Gene rented some movies when he picked up my Valium and we enjoyed family time together. I did take my Percocet medication when needed. The first day I was burping alot from all of the anesthesia in my body. Another great friend stopped by and dropped off dinner. It was great because all Gene had to do is put it in the oven.
I slept in the recliner for the 2nd night. I did take some medication to help me relax and sleep. I did sleep alittle better but still miserable. When both of your sides are hurting its so hard to sleep, at least for me on my back. I am also wearing the girdle and bra that is real tight.
I wasn't able to take a shower for 48 hours. On Sunday, I relaxed most of the day. Gene and I decided to remove the nausea patch behind my ear even thou it hasn't been 48 hours. I didn't get sick. I didn't want to take the risk to get it on my pillow and into my eyes. Remember from my previous blog that your eyes get blurry and large pupils can happened if medication touches it. He wore gloves to remove it. The patch did help me and I would use it again but lets hope no future surgeries soon.
On this day, I was able to freshen up. This would be the first time I saw my body and breasts. I took a shower in the kids bathroom since there is a shower head to take down to use for my hair. I was able to remove the gauze and left the bandages covering the incisions on for the shower. I was able to wash myself. I took it slow, I didn't want to pull out any stitches even thou they are internal. My chest area and arms where covered with orange iodine. I got most of it off. I also had sticky marks from all of the monitors they put on my body. Now its time for my hair, remember I can't lift my arms above my shoulders. Now I know why older women go to the salon to get their hair done. Gene washed my hair and that was an experience. It wasn't scrubbed like I would do. I had to do some explaining. It was funny because Emily was in her room but could hear us and was laughing saying I tell him that as well when he washes my hair. I was tired after this long process, we put the gauze back on and I went back to relax. My initial impression about my body was wow there is no black and blue marks all over my stomach. There were dark reddish bruises by each of my hips but that was it. I mentally prepared myself that I could look like I was beaten up but I just looked swollen with a little bruising which was great. At this time, I can't tell the difference in my implants because of all of the swelling. The breast do look great! She is an artist with the body. Gene and AJ left for a hockey game while Emily and I played board games.
This evening I slept back in my own bed. I still couldn't sleep on my sides but It was better for me to lay down. I made sure I wore my belt because getting out of bed is a little harder than the recliner. I did get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom but was able to move. I had several pillows under my head and around me just in case Gene moved by me.
Day 3-6. I was home alone. Gene and the kids went back to school and work. I relaxed and was able to get caught up on my tivo TV shows for the first day. My mom did stop by to help with some light work and see if I needed any other help. As most of you know, I didn't sit for long after a few days went by I didn't sit still. In my mind, I know I had too much to do for Xmas. I did get all my Xmas cards completed. I did take a ride with my mom to go get stamps and she mailed them out for me. It's hard to remember not to lift anything. I am feeling much better now and I am walking around. I know when I have done too much with my arms because I get sore so I have to sit down and relax. By the fifth day, I went to the store by myself. I went to Walmart which is a close trip. I was able to get some stuff done for Xmas and birthdays. I didn't buy anything that was heavy to lift. Its amazing how great it feels to get out of the house after you are laid up. That evening Gene took Emily to her soccer clinic. I decided not to go because its uncomfortable for me to wear the girdle while sitting in one spot for a long time. The girdle is bothering me on my sides. It seems to be getting my skin red. When I am home, I will wear it on the outside of my shirt. I also have taken it off for short periods to take a breather. I wear it under my shirt when I go out in public so now no one needs to see it. I did ended up going out with AJ to another store that evening. I had to go to a certain store for a gift. I was tired by the evening since my body hasn't been moving this much. The challenge I would say I had during these few days is that I am moving around and I don't look sick. I have to ask my family members to take the garbage out, lift heavy items, hang up items, etc and they look at me and forget I am still healing. They are helping but need to be reminded. I am a strong and independent person but I am letting them take care of what I can't but its hard because I feel I am giving orders.
I went to the doctor on Thursday for a follow up. I am going to end it here and continue what she said in another blog. Sorry for all the delay info. It wasn't that I am not feeling good just alot going on. Check back real soon. SMILE :)

part two more info regarding surgery
surgery information continued- I woke up from surgery in more pain than I thought I would be. My right side of my body was hurting. The nurse asked me if I wanted some pain medication in my IV. I said yes it was a level 9 out of 10 as far as the pain level. I remember I was very tired and I fell back asleep. Not sure how long I was asleep but I woke up still in pain so she gave me some more pain medication. I slowly came out of the anesthesia and was able to communicate to the nurse. The nurse said I looked much better now because I was pale and looked in alot of pain when I first came into the recovery room. There are two rooms for recovery. The first room allows you to sleep off your anesthesia and come back to a normal state of mind. The second room is when are transported out of the bed and into a chair to finish your recovery. She wheeled me into the second recovery room and covered me with extra blankets. At this time, she called Gene out of the waiting room to come in and be with me. She had made me some toast with butter and jelly ( that's a good combo that I forget to make at home and she had toast on top of each other which was different) and gave me some ginger ale. It tasted good since I haven't had anything to eat.
Gene said" I have been in the recovery room along time". They called him when I got out of surgery to let him know I was in the recovery room. He knew he could see me in recovery room but was waiting along time and he was never called. He called over to make sure everything was okay since it was a long time. I guess I did fall back to sleep for awhile! My doctor spoke with him and informed him the surgery went well but I did have alot of scar tissue. The surgery took about two hours.
The nurse went over all the paperwork what I can/can't do, removed the IV and was getting ready to release me to go home. I was still in pain and had filled my prescription of Perocets but it was at home so she gave me one before leaving the hospital. Gene helped me get dress since I was still in the hospital gown. When we got my sweats on and Gene notice there was a large amount of blood on my girdle belt which helps support my stomach area from surgery The nurse came over said "they will replace it with a new one" and she went and got a second nurse to help remove and get a new one on. The bleeding was from one of my incision and said it was normal. She put on some extra gauze and gave me some extra to take home. The belt needs to be real snug so that's why a 2nd nurse was asked to help. I had on a bra that the hospital gives you that is snug fitting and zips up in the front. The nurses were still there when I was getting dress and said I shouldn't lift my arms above my shoulders because of the stitches. O'no when I had the 1st surgery, I bought button down shirts to wear and this time I forgot about my arms. I had brought an older shirt but had to slip it over my head. They said I could take home the gown but I didn't want anything from the hospital associated with my surgeries or even as far as germs brought home! I always even leave the socks they give you. Both of the nurses helped me, they had me place my arms in first then stretched the shirt over my head. She had Gene go get the car and drive it up to the front. I had to go to the bathroom from all of the pressure so she put me in the wheel chair and I was able to slowly move. She wheeled me out to the car and we were heading home.
It was 2:45 pm when we got home. Wow, I thought we would be home sooner than that. I was still light headed from the anesthesia and still in alot of pain. I wanted to go right to sleep. I didn't even want to eat. Gene helped me upstairs, got me situated in our recliner chairs and I fell asleep. He even took out the phones from upstairs so I wouldn't be disturbed. My good friend offered to pick up my kids from school and take them so I can rest. That was helpful and they were excited to go play with her kids. That was great but alot of work for her since she had to go to three schools to get all of our kids.
My daughter was happy because I told her she can be picked up early since two of the schools were getting dismissed at the same time. I was only able to sleep for about an hour because I woke up having to go to the bathroom again. I tend to go pee several times a day and the pressure from the belt doesn't help!. Gene came up to see if I was okay since he heard me and asked if I wanted something to eat. I said yes, can you make me some toast like I had at the hospital? So far lucky I haven't gotten, sick maybe the extra patch did help! A few minutes later my friend called who picked up my kids. I was able to speak with each of the kids and let them know I was home and was good.(didn't tell them about my pain) They were so excited because my friend decided to take them to the movies and to the diner afterwards for dinner. I slowly took my time eating and eventually went down stairs to watch some TV and relax. We still have our glider chair and ottoman from when the kids were babies so I am sitting in that in our family room. Gene picked up dinner for the both of us. I eat alittle, the dinner wasn't cook all the way(eggplant) but was enough to eat. The kids came home and we all relaxed before bed time. I was tired, I went to bed early and took some more pain medication. I slept in the recliner chair. I didn't sleep well all night. I couldn't get comfortable, I had to go to the bathroom through-out the night and just couldn't sleep.YUK

I guess I did fall back to sleep for awhile! My doctor spoke with him and informed him the surgery went well but I did have alot of scar tissue. The surgery took about two hours.
The nurse went over all the paperwork what I can/can't do, removed the IV and was getting ready to release me to go home. I was still in pain and had filled my prescription of Perocets but it was at home so she gave me one before leaving the hospital. Gene helped me get dress since I was still in the hospital gown. When we got my sweats on and Gene notice there was a large amount of blood on my girdle belt which helps support my stomach area from surgery The nurse came over said "they will replace it with a new one" and she went and got a second nurse to help remove and get a new one on. The bleeding was from one of my incision and said it was normal. She put on some extra gauze and gave me some extra to take home. The belt needs to be real snug so that's why a 2nd nurse was asked to help. I had on a bra that the hospital gives you that is snug fitting and zips up in the front. The nurses were still there when I was getting dress and said I shouldn't lift my arms above my shoulders because of the stitches. O'no when I had the 1st surgery, I bought button down shirts to wear and this time I forgot about my arms. I had brought an older shirt but had to slip it over my head. They said I could take home the gown but I didn't want anything from the hospital associated with my surgeries or even as far as germs brought home! I always even leave the socks they give you. Both of the nurses helped me, they had me place my arms in first then stretched the shirt over my head. She had Gene go get the car and drive it up to the front. I had to go to the bathroom from all of the pressure so she put me in the wheel chair and I was able to slowly move. She wheeled me out to the car and we were heading home.
It was 2:45 pm when we got home. Wow, I thought we would be home sooner than that. I was still light headed from the anesthesia and still in alot of pain. I wanted to go right to sleep. I didn't even want to eat. Gene helped me upstairs, got me situated in our recliner chairs and I fell asleep. He even took out the phones from upstairs so I wouldn't be disturbed. My good friend offered to pick up my kids from school and take them so I can rest. That was helpful and they were excited to go play with her kids. That was great but alot of work for her since she had to go to three schools to get all of our kids.
My daughter was happy because I told her she can be picked up early since two of the schools were getting dismissed at the same time. I was only able to sleep for about an hour because I woke up having to go to the bathroom again. I tend to go pee several times a day and the pressure from the belt doesn't help!. Gene came up to see if I was okay since he heard me and asked if I wanted something to eat. I said yes, can you make me some toast like I had at the hospital? So far lucky I haven't gotten, sick maybe the extra patch did help! A few minutes later my friend called who picked up my kids. I was able to speak with each of the kids and let them know I was home and was good.(didn't tell them about my pain) They were so excited because my friend decided to take them to the movies and to the diner afterwards for dinner. I slowly took my time eating and eventually went down stairs to watch some TV and relax. We still have our glider chair and ottoman from when the kids were babies so I am sitting in that in our family room. Gene picked up dinner for the both of us. I eat alittle, the dinner wasn't cook all the way(eggplant) but was enough to eat. The kids came home and we all relaxed before bed time. I was tired, I went to bed early and took some more pain medication. I slept in the recliner chair. I didn't sleep well all night. I couldn't get comfortable, I had to go to the bathroom through-out the night and just couldn't sleep.YUK

details about surgery part one
It's the fifth day after my surgery and I am doing great. I have been thinking about the surgery with everything I went through and I am still amazed what the doctors can perform. I do not get mad that I HAD cancer instead I am grateful that I am alive and I have wonderful doctors!
On Friday December 3, 2010 my surgery was scheduled for 9:45am. The time worked out well because we were able to get the kids ready for school.We left at 7:45am to the hospital since they asked me to be there early. I was called into the prep room around 9:00am. As I walked to the pre-op area , I passed by several nurses/doctors that I recognized from all the times I have been at the hospital. One of the nurse's face drop, like she was shocked to see me back for more surgery. (when I had my hysterectomy I was in the main operating room and this time I was in the out patient area which I have been for the majority of my surgeries) At this time, I changed into the robe and waited in the bed for all of the doctors to speak with me. There were several nurses who needed to review all of my paperwork. As I was reviewing my medical history with the first nurse, I explained to her with my previous surgeries I have felt nausea and I even vomited up after two surgeries. I had anti-nausea medicine put into my IV with all of my surgeries. She suggested when I speak with the anesthesia doctor to inform him that I would like the nausea patch behind my ear as well as the anti nausea medicine in my IV. The anesthesia doctor came by and reviewed what will happen during my surgery. I told him that unfortunately I have been through many surgeries and I am familiar with the procedures. He heard me talking with the nurse that I had problems in the past with anesthesia and I tend to get sick. He explained that your brain has three areas that can trigger the nausea feeling. He ask if I get car sick (yes if I am in the back seat on curvy roads) and I also been on two cruises in which I got sick on both trips. Yuck, its not fun to be sick. :< He stated he will put the medication in my IV and he will also give me a patch to wear behind my ear. The patch is similar to what the cruise ship uses. Some interesting facts, he said" many years ago this patch in a much higher dose was used when female were giving birth". He returned and put the patch behind my left ear. It looked like a bandage. The patch is good for 48 hours and he said I will start to feel a slight difference within a half hour. He did warn us not to touch the patch. When the patch needs to be removed, we need to use gloves. There is a chemical in the patch that if your hands touch it and you happen to rub your eye, your vision will get blurry and your pupil will get enlarged. He said several people come into the ER panicking not knowing what caused these symptoms. He gave us a pair gloves to take home with us.
Another nurse came over to insert the IV. I explained that in June, I had the IV inserted on the side of my wrist and I had nerve damage for several months after. She doesn't like to insert in that area and she inserted it on the top of my left hand. Another two representatives came over from the anesthesia department to introduce themselves and explain all three of them will be in the room with me during my surgery. One of the ladies chatted with us for awhile since the surgery wasn't going to start on time. My doctor was running alittle behind but the operating room that I was going into had another procedure in the room with a different doctor so we had to wait. She reviewed the patch procedures as well. She told my husband and I a story about her friend who called her because she had surgery and she also had the patch. Her friend's eyes were blurry and the pupil got enlarged but she was still wearing the patch. What happened in this situation is that the patch must of rubbed on her pillow and got into her eye. Her friend was told to go to sleep and these symptoms will eventually wear off. I am glad she told us about this situation so I am aware. The nurse who's face was shocked when I entered stopped by and I explained why I was back for more surgery. It is nice that the nurses are concern and do care.
My cancer doctor was at the hospital for other surgeries and stopped by to say hello. It was nice to chat with her. My plastic surgeon came by to review my procedure one more time and I had to sign one more consent form. She explained she has 3-4 different saline implants that she will try in my breast cavity and she will put the implant in that matches best to my body. This is why I love my doctor! She doesn't just put one implant in and say your stuck with that particular one. She makes sure I would be happy with the final outcome. The surgery finally began forty minutes later than expected. I remember being wheeled into the OR room and getting the mask over my nose/mouth to make me go asleep. It seemed like it took longer this time to fall asleep then in previous surgeries. I remember a nurse moving my arm out to the side and then I was out in la la land.

Surgery is almost here!
I am ready for my 5th surgery. I want it done. It seems like I've been waiting so long but I haven't. My insurance has approved my surgery and the hospital confirmed my registration. I didn't get my blood work done last week because my allergies were bothering me.(lucky I manage not to get sick) I got my blood work done today 11/24/10. They took four vials of blood. They are checking cbc count, make sure I don't have any blood clots (not sure how they determine this), electrolytes, and I forgot the last category.
I saw my plastic surgeon on Thursday November 18, 2010 for my pre-op exam. Before I went into the exam room, I had to read and initial 26 pages of information regarding my surgery. Wow, if this was my first time having this procedure, it's enough data to scare you and not to have the surgery. I told this to my doctor and she agreed and said she tells her receptionist to send this packet to the patients house prior to the pre-op visit so the patients have time to review it. I don't really remember going through this book before. I guess I was so involved with the cancer that I just signed it all.
I explained to the doctor that my entire family is on antibiotics for allergy infections. She mentioned if I have any signs of an infection to call her and she will give me antibiotics. She gave me a prescription for antibiotics to start to take the day before my surgery. Any time you have a foreign object inserted in your body, you have to take antibiotics to protect from possible infections.
The surgery is scheduled for December 3,2010. I will not know the time for the surgery until a few days before 12/3. The surgery will take around one hour fifteen minutes - one hour and half long. Say a prayer for my surgeon to perform her wonderful work and correct the issues my body has gone through. I will be a new women soon! I am changing my implants to silicone. My right breast tissue that has harden seems to be not as hard feeling as a few weeks ago. She said the breast will go through changes on its own when its effected by the radiation. At times I feel my right breast moving around like it has fluid in it and has a weird feeling. I can compare the sensation when you shake water in a bottle and it squishes around. My doctor said I will not feel this with the saline implants and that is one of the differences.
She will cut along my existing scar on the outside of each breast, take out my saline implant and insert the new silicone implants. For my left breast, the existing tissue will remain. She is going to insert alittle of fat above my breast to make it look fuller. On the right breast, the old tissue will need to be removed and be replaced with fat from my stomach. The tissue will be placed between my skin and the implant. She will cut below my belly button and remove the fat from that area. She said no-one will notice the incision after it heals, it will be small.
It does gross me out to watch liposuction perform on TV. Lucky I will be asleep and I will think about the positive benefits: a healthy new breast and some fat removed from my stomach area! Yea!!! She will remove the fat with her tools and by using her own arm muscles. She doesn't use a suction fat machine. I teased her and said she gets a work-out performing her surgeries. I also told her that I would be okay if she removes more fat! PLEASE She did say I should notice a slight difference in my stomach after I am healed.
The surgery is an out-patient service and I will be going home the same day. I will be able to drive if needed the next day as long I am not taking pain mediation. She gave me an RX: Oxycontin to take if needed. I will get the prescription filled before next week. I will stop all my vitamins and medications two days prior to surgery. I will be bandage up around my breast area. I can take a shower in 48 hours.( I have to check on the time, I forgot to write it down.) My stomach area will not look pretty for awhile. It will be swollen and black and blue. After the surgery,the hospital staff will put on a girdle around my stomach that I need to wear all day and night. This will help the swelling. I will see her the following Thursday in her office for a follow up.
I was surprise to hear the following information! She mentioned to me that I will continue to see her for six months after the surgery. There is a slight chance that I will need to have another surgery. As the fat settles down in my right breast, I might need additional fat insert into right breast only. I hope I don't have to have another surgery. I haven't had always the best of luck in my past when it comes to slight chances that may occur.

follow up with Oncologist
Sorry, I know I am behind to update my blog. I just haven't taken the time to sit down and write. We have been busy with sports and now everybody in the family is getting a sinus infection and asthma concerns so there has been several trips to the doctors.
I saw my Oncologist on November 3, 2010 for a follow up visit. I informed him about my surgery on December 3, 2010. He was shocked to hear about the news! He listened to my chest and my breathing was good. He also pushed on my spine to see if I had any discomfort. He was checking my bones for any abnormality. (no, I didn't have any pain.). He reviewed my bone density test from September and it was normal. I will get a bone density test performed every two years. I explained to him that my night sweats aren't as bad as they were in the last few months. He said " my body is adjusting to the changes and that's why I am not sweating as much as before". I am happy for that! The night sweats were bad. I would wake up and my face and hair would be sticky. Now I just wake up hot and I can take off the covers and go back to sleep. Lucky, I am not having any other side effects at this time.
We reviewed my last blood work results. All the results were good. He informed me when individuals have a hysterectomy that some people's cholesterol will increase. I will have my cholesterol re-checked in five months when I get my other routine blood work done. My cholesterol was good, 174.
He wasn't concerned for ovarian cancer since all my organs were removed. There is a slight chance that a cell for breast cancer is floating around in my body so that is why we have CA-127 and CA-129 markers for breast cancer checked during my blood work routine. Everyday I take Tamoxifen and I asked him if I should remain on this medication or I need to change to Arimidex since I am considered in menopause stage. There was a recent study performed with women who had a partial hysterectomy verses women who had a full hysterectomy. Half of them took the medication Tamoxifen and the other half took the medication Arimidex. There was no difference between the two medications. I have no side effects on Tamoxifen so there is no reason to change. He feels Tamoxifen is better for your bones as well as a great estrogen blocker. He feels that I am a very low risk for breast cancer recurrence. My breast cancer was diagnose at an early stage but when the lab examined the tissue afterwards invasive cancer was found. That is why I am taking the medication and my genetic testing is undetermined if I am a carrier.
I will get my blood work done in May 2011 and follow up with him at that time.
I am feeling okay about the surgery. I am fighting a little bit of sinus issues. I have been resting so I don't get sick before the surgery. It seems like the surgery day is so far away. I want to get the surgery done and over with. I am excited to see what my new boobs will look like! Who would ever think I would be saying those words! I want to start the healing process and be ready for Xmas. I am getting my pre-op blood work done tomorrow and on Thursday I will see my plastic surgeon for my pre-op visit. Take Care and stay warm!

more surgery part two
The night I found out all this information I was running some errands with Emily. Gene called my cell phone and she heard me talking to him explaining what the doctor said. When I got off the phone, she asked me if I was having surgery again. I said yes. We arrived home shortly after this conversation. I finished explaining all the news to Gene and asked Emily to go upstairs and get ready for bed. When she came back down she sat in my lap and I could tell something was wrong with her. As soon as I asked her what is wrong, she started crying. I realized she was upset about me having surgery. The first thing I said to her was assuring her that I don't have cancer and made sure she understood. I continued to explain that I need to fix my breast. She didn't understand so I turned to Gene and asked him how do I explain this. At this time AJ was walking down stairs so we included him with this conversation. We want to be upfront with the kids so I explained the truth how I had to remove my breast from cancer and I don't have real boobs. I explained I have implants that make me look like I have real boobs and one of them needs to be repaired. I explained this is a subject that was discussed with-in our family and not a topic they need to talk with their friends. I explained I would be home the same day either before they get home from school or around dinner time. Emily was okay but she was sad she won't be able to sit on my lap for awhile. They didn't have any questions. Yes, I did get tears in my eyes while I spoke with my kids. I am sensitive and felt how scared the kids were. I have been through alot as well as my family.
The next day, I started thinking if I should change my implants. The other type of implants are suppose to a softer feeling and the majority of people use them. I spoke with my plastic surgeon's assistant and she gave me the name of the silicone implant she uses. I was able to do some research about this type. I e-mailed my plastic surgeon and she thought I would be pleased with the silicone implants. She said the surgery wouldn't be much longer to switch the other side as well. I have decided to change both of my implants. I currently have saline and will change both breast to silicone. I am staying the same size for my breast so my skin will not need any other surgery. I will follow up with her in regards to questions about the tissue on my left side breast that isn't damage before my surgery.
As far as recovery, it will be less to worry about than the initial surgery. I will not have any drainage tubes, yea!!!! The cavity under my breast skin is already there, she just cuts near the existing scar on each side of my breasts removes the implants and inserts the new implants. She will have to remove tissue from my stomach and insert into the breast. I will have dissolvable stitches on the side of my breast and maybe underneath the front. I will be black/blue from the liposuction on my stomach with a small suture. I will have gauze covering the breast area for the first week. The recovery shouldn't be too long.
I scheduled my surgery for December 3, 2010. I don't know the time until that week. If there our patients that need to have a mastectomy or lumpectomy they will be scheduled before me. I wont be any later than 1:00 in the afternoon. I hope the sooner the better. I need to have some pre-op blood work done before my surgery.
November 3, 2010 I have my five month follow up appointment to see my oncologist.
November 18, 2010 I will see my plastic surgeon for any questions/concerns before my surgery.
My team: Bossom Buddies walked for the American Cancer Society on October 24, 2010. We had a great turnout. I have updated my blog site with some pictures from the walk. It was a colder day than last year's walk. October is a special month for me. This is the month I found out I had breast cancer. I also get to celebrate my birthday this month and remember how lucky I am alive. I will continue to participate in the breast cancer walk each year in October as well.
The next day, I started thinking if I should change my implants. The other type of implants are suppose to a softer feeling and the majority of people use them. I spoke with my plastic surgeon's assistant and she gave me the name of the silicone implant she uses. I was able to do some research about this type. I e-mailed my plastic surgeon and she thought I would be pleased with the silicone implants. She said the surgery wouldn't be much longer to switch the other side as well. I have decided to change both of my implants. I currently have saline and will change both breast to silicone. I am staying the same size for my breast so my skin will not need any other surgery. I will follow up with her in regards to questions about the tissue on my left side breast that isn't damage before my surgery.
As far as recovery, it will be less to worry about than the initial surgery. I will not have any drainage tubes, yea!!!! The cavity under my breast skin is already there, she just cuts near the existing scar on each side of my breasts removes the implants and inserts the new implants. She will have to remove tissue from my stomach and insert into the breast. I will have dissolvable stitches on the side of my breast and maybe underneath the front. I will be black/blue from the liposuction on my stomach with a small suture. I will have gauze covering the breast area for the first week. The recovery shouldn't be too long.

more surgery part one
Yes, it's true more surgery for repair NO CANCER!!!!!! A few weeks ago, I noticed my skin above my right breast getting stretched and it was getting itchy from time to time. I also notice my breast getting firmer and it started to get uncomfortable to sleep on. I made an appointment to see my plastic surgeon. In the meantime, I e-mailed her my concern. She e-mailed me back and said "most likely what you see and feel are side effects of radiation treatment called capsular contracture".
I couldn't believe radiation could have a side effect 1 1/2 years later. I did some research on the Internet until my appointment. On Thursday October 21, 2010 I went and saw her. She confirmed it was capsular contracture from the radiation just by looking at me. She didn't even have to touch me to make the diagnose. She explained this is why the doctors were concerned for me to have radiation after they found out I was positive for cancer in my margin because they were afraid of this side effect. I wasn't aware the radiation would effect me this long after my surgery. Believe me, I am glad I went through radiation rather then having cancer! She explained my breast can stay the way it is now or can get worse. Unfortunately no one knows what my body will do. It is uncomfortable for me. This side effect can happen at anytime but for most of the people the side effect happens shortly after treatment was completed. Everybody knows I don't ever fall in the category as normal when it comes to my story for breast cancer. To give everybody an example it feels like a balloon when it's ready to pop and at the top its getting pulled. This is how I feel. I was shock it happen but not mad. It seems when I think I am done with surgeries and ready to move forward in my life another bump arrives in my journey. All these steps I am going through is making me stronger and I appreciate what I have in my life. It could be worst! At times it does seem like a big dream that I had cancer but I learned not to get depressed about it and to fight and beat it!

Now that I know I need surgery, I want it tomorrow. She asked me to follow up with her assistant to make the hospital arrangements. If you don't remember, my plastic surgeon's main office is in Long Island, NY and travels to CT a few days a week. The tissue that is damage will be removed. She will perform liposuction and replace the damage tissue with fat tissue. She explained I can choose where I want the liposuction taken from. I would like it taken from my lower abdominal area. I also asked if she can take extra ha ha ha. At least I tried to get more off and make the best of it. The tissue that she will insert will develop over time. She called the process new babies which will develop around the implant. I was concern transferring the tissue without making sure its okay and the answer was no its good just fat. Wow, I guess I can say I had Botox and now liposuction!!!! The surgery will take about 1 1/2 hours and she will perform the surgery by herself. If my cancer surgeon is not performing a surgery at that time, she might be in there with her. This will be an outpatient surgery and I will not stay overnight in the hospital. I am sure your wondering can this happen again after I go through this surgery. Yes, it can. Please say a pray for me that the radiation will not damage the new tissue. In the worst case if that happened then I would need the flap surgery which is major surgery (8-12hrs). I don't want this option at this time.

Hi,
As many of you know this month is Breast Cancer awareness. There has been several sports and activities on TV that help individuals aware of breast cancer. My son's hockey team played in a tournament last weekend and each team had picked how they would represent pink to help awareness. On our team, each player taped the bottom of their hockey stick pink. I thought it was awesome that the breast cancer symbol was painted under the ice for these games. Look at the photo I added to my site!!!
I will be walking on October 24, 2010 along with family and friends to help raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society. I will update the photos and how the day went after the event. I hope the weather is beautiful for us.

Dexa Examine
On Tuesday September 7, 2010 I had a Dexa Exam (bone density test). I wasn't sure what to expect since this was my first exam. I was told the test was compared to a x-ray and I was able to drive myself to the appointment. I did remove my earrings and didn't wear any jewelry since I wasn't sure how particular the test would be involved. I was surprised when I checked in that I didn't have to fill out any paperwork. (maybe they felt my information was updated since this was the same facility I recently had my MRI's).
I had to wait about five minutes then was called in. The nurse had me put on a gown. We went into an individual exam room and I laid down on the table. She had me turn my left ankle inwards and then strapped the ankle into a velcro strap. She entered some information into the computer asked my weight, height and explained the procedure would take about 10 minutes. The table might slightly shake from the machine moving. She also verified that I haven't had any back or hip surgery. The machine looked like a L shape that scanned my lower body for the first scan. I had to bend my knees and put my feet up on a block for the second scan which went higher up on my body. The machine was above me and never touched me. The test was over and she said a technician will read the x-ray in the next 24 hours and my doctor will follow up with me.
Wow, I was so amazed how fast and easy the exam went. I guess I was surprised because other examines were so uncomfortable that this exam was a breeze! I thought I would explain my experience for those of you who haven't experience this test.
On Friday September 10, 2010 I received the following text from my Oncologist and he said" Hi Monica, your bone density test was NORMAL! Congrads and keep up the calcium/vit D Best, his name"
That was great news! I had an appointment to see him on September 15 so I text-ed him back that I am feeling great and since he has given me the results do I still need to see him in the office in a few days? He said " I can reschedule my appointment".
September 13, 2010 I called the office and rescheduled. My next appointment is on November 3. My OBYGN office also called today to inform me the results of my Dexa exam. I received a copy of the Dexa exam and my last blood work today via fax.
I am feeling great and I hope this long journey is over for cancer!!! I will continue to be monitored by all my doctors for the next five years. Yes, I still have night sweats every night. I guess this is the worst part!

Blood work
I had my blood drawn on August 20, 2010. This was the first time since my surgery. I had to fast for this visit since I was getting my cholesterol checked. I had five tubes of blood taken.
We took a short trip to Cape Cod, Mass with the kids before school started. On Tuesday August 24, 2010 I received a text from my Oncologist giving me wonderful news about my blood work. My blood markers CA-127/129 for breast cancer was 18 and CA-125 for ovarian cancer was 15. My cholesterol (LDL) was 98, which is great. My vitamin D was also good.
I wasn't sure where the numbers should be at so I text-ed him back. He replied for CA-125,127,129 less than 30 is normal. My numbers were great since my numbers where in the teens! I was so relieved and glad to hear this wonderful news before we left. I am able to relax knowing my body is back to normal.
I have a follow up appointment in two weeks with my Oncologist for my routine appointment. We will also go over my blood work in more detail. I have an appointment for a Dexa exam (bone density) scheduled in a week and half.
I am feeling great and very happy that my blood work is back to normal! I have signed up to walk for the 2nd year for the American Cancer Society. Please visit my site. Talk soon.

six week check-up
I went to my OBGYN on July 27, 2010 for my six week follow up after surgery. The appointment went well. I am cleared to do all activities, back to a normal life. She mentioned that my scars are still red and to make sure I keep them covered from the sun for this summer. This will help so they don't get scared. In a year, the scar should be a white/tan color and hopefully blend in with my skin. I had an internal exam and she said everything looked well and healed.
We reviewed my medications. When I take my calcium it sometimes makes me burp. She suggested to buy chewable ones at Trader Joe's. I told her I have an script from my Oncologist for blood work and a bone density test to be done by the end of the Summer. She would like to be copied on the results. We reviewed the side effects from having a hysterectomy. I explained at night not every night but quite often I get night sweats sometimes twice a few hours apart. We have the air conditioner on low in our bedroom. She mentioned to put a small fan by my bed in which I have done since the appointment. There are certain foods that can increase the hot flashes and to try to avoid alcohol, sugar, and caffeine before bed time. I think this is pretty much all foods before bed, what kind I eat? This is the only side effect I have so far. I can have other side effects in the future when my body changes.
I am not having a problem but if my body changes she wrote down names of creams if I get vaginal dryness. The creams don't have estrogen which the doctors don't want me to have unless I have real bad side effects then I will get put on estrogen.
I have to continue to do my kegel exercises even thou I had a vagina lift during my surgery. Since my body isn't producing estrogen the blood vessels aren't contracting in this area so I might feel different at times. Some individuals after the surgery tend to get a flabby stomach. Great now I really need to make sure I get my exercises done!
She gave me a hug and was glad I am healthy. She said I have been through enough! I will not need to see her again for a year unless I am having a problem. Please no more issues, I think I have had enough.
I am feeling great and back to normal. My fingers still get tingle once in awhile. I have the night sweats but that's it. Thanks for keeping up with my information and chat with everybody soon. SMILE :>

Healing process
Hello everybody,
I had a few minor bumps this last week. My wrist is still bothering me. I can wiggle my fingers but sometimes when I reach for something I feel the shooting pain. It is getting better but the nerves are not healed yet.
Last Saturday July 3, 2010 in the afternoon I started to get a pain on my right side. We were at a party, so when I got home I took some GAS-X medicine thinking it was gas left over from my surgery. It didn't help. The pain was sharp and was on and off. I had the pain all day Sunday and Monday. The pain gets worse when I sit too long. The pain is above my hip across to my belly button area, where one of my incision were located. On Tuesday July 6 I called my OBGYN and I went to see her. She did an internal exam as well as feeling my stomach from the outside. She felt a soft area and thought its a pulled muscle. It wasn't a blood clot which she was concerned. She mentioned maybe I've been putting more pressure on my right side. She confirmed that I have and continue to go to the bathroom. I was concerned that I pulled some stitches internally but my organs were burned off so I have no stiches. She did mentioned that I will feel scar tissue that will eventually die off but felt it was early for that stage. She said to put ice on the area and take Motrin when needed but not to over take the Motrin. She will be on vacation for two weeks but if it gets worse, I need to see someone else in the practice. If I get a fever, to call the doctor right away. She mentioned she did see my appendix during the surgery and looked okay. She feels it should heal with some time. If the pain doesn't go away then I will have an ultra-sound to verify the area is good.
The pain was not really bothering me on Wednesday and Thursday. Today Friday July 9TH the pain is back and bothering me alot. I think its trying to heal and maybe the scar tissue is interfering.
I go back to see my OBGYN at the end of July.
My allergies started bothering my Tuesday night. When I woke up Wednesday my voice was raspy and was hard to understand me. This continued until Friday. Today I feel much better and my voice is just about back to normal.
I guess those bumps are okay since its nothing major. There was also one more incident that led my husband, my son and myself to the ER room, same hospital I was at. Last Friday July 2, 2010 we had Chinese food for dinner. We had eaten at this restaurant for years. About a half hour after we ate, AJ started to throw up. We thought the food didn't agree with him. We took his temperature and he was okay. His checks were red as well as his eyes. I thought he strained his blood vessels when he threw up. We didn't think too much of it. We had some friends over so we had him sit and relax since they were playing soccer. Over about 45 minutes later his nose got stuffy so I gave him his inhaler and some allergy medication as well as a nose spray. I thought his allergies were bothering him since he was outside all day and he is allergic to the trees and grass. I didn't realize stuffy nose was a sign of an allergy reaction and the bright red eyes. He felt hot to touch by this time and we took off his shirt and he had hives on his back, stomach and on his legs. We immediately gave him Benadryl and called the doctor. The doctor felt since he is allergic to peanuts and all nuts that his body is rejecting some kind of contact with nuts. The raction can act up to 4 hours. He was breathing okay but started to panic when he knew we were calling the doctor. The doctor asked us to inject the epi-pen and take him to the ER. He has never had the epi-pen. I gave Gene the Epi-pen walked up to AJ didn't want to give him too much time to think about the fear, told him to hold my hands and daddy is about to give your epi-pen to him. He screamed alittle and said it didn't hurt too bad. My friend, thank you again, stayed with Emily and we left for the hospital.
We have another friend whose a doctor and he called the ER ahead of time, thanks my friend and we were able to be seen right away. The staff said the inhaler helped open his passage. His oxygen was at a good level but his heart rate was up alittle. The epi-pen raises your heart beat and he was nervous. We were assigned to a room and we were seen by the doctor within 10 minutes which was great especially being Friday night on a holiday weekend. The doctor said he was okay but he needs to stay at the hospital for 3 hours to be monitored. Once you insert the epi-pen the patient has to be watched for 4 hours but since it was already about a hour we had to stay 3 more. You can have another reaction but the doctor didn't feel he was in any more danger. We watched Funny Videos with him and were going to go home at midnight. The doctor let us go home alittle bit early. AJ had to take a steroid medication for 5 days afterwards. We were lucky that this was a small reaction. He is doing great. His leg is sore from the injection and is asking several questions when we eat food. He is on high alert and concern. No more Chinese food for him even thou he ate it for years. The doctor was from India and he said not too eat India food or Chinese food because of the cross contamination.
Earlier in the day I put my brace back on my stomach because I felt like I was moving around alot. I am glad I did since we sat at the hospital for hours.
I hope we don't have to go through this again but we know the signs now. I will update when I have more medical news on myself. The blog turned out to be long again. I need to blog more often so the entries are shorter. Have a safe and relaxing summer. :>
I had a few minor bumps this last week. My wrist is still bothering me. I can wiggle my fingers but sometimes when I reach for something I feel the shooting pain. It is getting better but the nerves are not healed yet.
Last Saturday July 3, 2010 in the afternoon I started to get a pain on my right side. We were at a party, so when I got home I took some GAS-X medicine thinking it was gas left over from my surgery. It didn't help. The pain was sharp and was on and off. I had the pain all day Sunday and Monday. The pain gets worse when I sit too long. The pain is above my hip across to my belly button area, where one of my incision were located. On Tuesday July 6 I called my OBGYN and I went to see her. She did an internal exam as well as feeling my stomach from the outside. She felt a soft area and thought its a pulled muscle. It wasn't a blood clot which she was concerned. She mentioned maybe I've been putting more pressure on my right side. She confirmed that I have and continue to go to the bathroom. I was concerned that I pulled some stitches internally but my organs were burned off so I have no stiches. She did mentioned that I will feel scar tissue that will eventually die off but felt it was early for that stage. She said to put ice on the area and take Motrin when needed but not to over take the Motrin. She will be on vacation for two weeks but if it gets worse, I need to see someone else in the practice. If I get a fever, to call the doctor right away. She mentioned she did see my appendix during the surgery and looked okay. She feels it should heal with some time. If the pain doesn't go away then I will have an ultra-sound to verify the area is good.
The pain was not really bothering me on Wednesday and Thursday. Today Friday July 9TH the pain is back and bothering me alot. I think its trying to heal and maybe the scar tissue is interfering.
I go back to see my OBGYN at the end of July.
My allergies started bothering my Tuesday night. When I woke up Wednesday my voice was raspy and was hard to understand me. This continued until Friday. Today I feel much better and my voice is just about back to normal.
I guess those bumps are okay since its nothing major. There was also one more incident that led my husband, my son and myself to the ER room, same hospital I was at. Last Friday July 2, 2010 we had Chinese food for dinner. We had eaten at this restaurant for years. About a half hour after we ate, AJ started to throw up. We thought the food didn't agree with him. We took his temperature and he was okay. His checks were red as well as his eyes. I thought he strained his blood vessels when he threw up. We didn't think too much of it. We had some friends over so we had him sit and relax since they were playing soccer. Over about 45 minutes later his nose got stuffy so I gave him his inhaler and some allergy medication as well as a nose spray. I thought his allergies were bothering him since he was outside all day and he is allergic to the trees and grass. I didn't realize stuffy nose was a sign of an allergy reaction and the bright red eyes. He felt hot to touch by this time and we took off his shirt and he had hives on his back, stomach and on his legs. We immediately gave him Benadryl and called the doctor. The doctor felt since he is allergic to peanuts and all nuts that his body is rejecting some kind of contact with nuts. The raction can act up to 4 hours. He was breathing okay but started to panic when he knew we were calling the doctor. The doctor asked us to inject the epi-pen and take him to the ER. He has never had the epi-pen. Oncologist appointment
Friday July 2, 2010 I had an appointment with my Oncologist to review my Endocrine treatment after my hysterectomy. He didn't know the results from my surgery so he was glad to hear that there was NO CANCER. I explained that I had endometriosis. He is 100% certain now that we know I don't have cancer that the endometriosis is why my blood test for CA-125 was increasing in my numbers. He explained to me that endometriosis can travel in the body behind my ribs, liver or other places within the body. We hope this doesn't happened but will continue to monitor me. He mentioned if I had blood work taken right now that my numbers for CA-125 would be high from the surgery. He has seen the results high in the 100's with people immediately after surgery. When the body produces estrogen is when endometriosis is seen. Since I will not be producing estrogen, I hope I will not have any more endometriosis.
He wants me to wait at least six weeks after my surgery before I have my blood withdrawn. He said if my number for CA-125 is low that is great and if its high we will monitor it and make sure it isn't cause by the endometriosis traveling. Endometriosis is caused by bleeding of the lining and said I would feel alot of pain if it does occur by my ribs and liver. I have been through enough surgeries. Let's pray I am all done with any more scares!
My blood work will check CA-125- marker for ovarian cancer or in my case endometriosis, CA-127 & CA-129 for breast cancer, we check this every time to verify no cancer cells remain, complete blood comprehension for my blood levels, vitamin D level, and going to get my cholesterol tested since this hasn't been done for a few years. I will have to fast-not eat before getting my blood work.
I will have a Dexa-bone scan performed to measure the density in my bones. A Dexa scan will help determine if you are at an increased risk of osteoporosis. He wants me to have this test done by the end of the summer. He already gave me the paperwork. The results should be good since I am still young. I will have this test performed every 2 years unless there is a problem. I will need to make sure I get my calcium.
We reviewed my medications. I will remain on Tamoxifen. I had no side effects and we would like for this to remain. This medication is nonsteroidal estrogen and does help my bones. The other medication for breast cancer is Arimidex and is for post partum women who had more aggressive cancer. He explained there was a study performed with 5,000 women who had breast cancer as well as their ovaries removed in which half of the women took Tamoxifen and the other half took Arimidex and there was no difference in the final outcome.
I will continue to take my multi-vitamin, vitamin C, vitamin D which I need to make sure I get 1000 IU a day, and I will need to increase my Calcium. I need to take 600-800 mg twice a day. The body can't absorb the Calcium all at once so that's why I have to take one in the morning and one at night. (I have to remember) He believes I will not have any more side effects and doesn't want me to take Estrogen. I agree with him. He mentioned if I experience vaginal dryness that he can prescribe an estrogen cream. If I do have to use the cream, I will have to make sure I get my blood withdrawn a few weeks after I use it to verify I am not getting too much estrogen.
I will see my Oncologist every four months for the first two years then every six months for the next three years.

OBGYN Oncologist
On Monday June 28, 2010 I saw my OBGYN Oncologist for a follow up appointment after my surgery.
The appointment went well. He confirmed there was no cancer. The washing test came back with no findings which is also good. The bandages were removed and are healing good. Two of the stitches have scabs on them but should heal okay. I will keep neosporin on them until their healed. I don't need to cover them anymore. Its amazing the incision look like a small scratch. If someone saw the marks they wouldn't know the marks were from surgery. He said my belly button and the incision right next to it hurt the most because the incisions were bigger/deeper than the other incisions. He also took a sample of my fat in my stomach area to verify there was no cancer. I asked him why he couldn't take more fat from me! He laughed and said I didn't need it. He's too kind. I was amazed to find out that I have no more restrictions except for no sex for 6 weeks. I questioned him even about exercising and he said I am cleared as long as I am feeling good. I am going to still take it easy and not lift heavy items because I don't want to over do it. I feel there was alot taken from the inside my body and I need to be cautious. The only side effect now that I am postpartum is that I have woken up 4 times out of the 13 days having night sweets. He said that was great because I would of shown any side effects the next day after surgery. He claims that I will not have the other side effects if I haven't had them already. I guess we will have to see with time and as I get older.
I told him about my left wrist pain with the IV situation. He mentioned his wife had the same issue after her surgery. It took her wrist 6 months before it was healed. He said my wrist looked swollen but if I am seeing small improvements hopefully it wont take too long to heal. I had an internal exam and everything was well. I will need to follow up with my OBGYN in 2 more weeks and review with her if she wants me to go on Estrogen. He said if it was his decision he likes women to have it and feels women need Estrogen but because Estrogen grows on cancer that I need to discuss the decisions with her. I discussed with my OBGYN in the past and I don't think I will take it unless I am having bad side effects. He reviewed to see my Oncologist in regards to the medication related to my breast cancer. I don't need to see him anymore since no cancer was found. He was a great guy and I would refer him in a second.
I am feeling wonderful and glad I can drive again. I am doing everything I did before the surgery except I am still not lifting heavy items. I do make sure I sit down a little during the day and not to over do it. I am hoping to start to exercise again soon. I have to also take it easy with my left wrist. My gas in my stomach is 99% better. Yea!

how I felt up to the 12th day of recovery
- The first two days I was home, I needed to take pain medication, slept alot and sat in the recliner chair.
- The first two nights, it was difficult to sleep comfortable at night. I took a Valium pill to help me fall asleep. I slept in our recliner chair in our bedroom.
- My mom, kids, and Gene were helping with the duties around the house.
- Under my chin was sore from the breathing tube that was inserted in my throat during my surgery.
- In the hospital they put a velcro brace around my stomach area to keep area tight and secure. I continued to wear the belt once I was home all week.
- They pumped so much air into my stomach that I had alot of gas pain.
- Almost every-time I ate for the first few days, my stomach would cramp up.
- Two incisions out of five were sore. They were located on the right side of my belly button and inside my belly button. I didn't know the other three were there.
- My wrist continues to hurt where the IV was inserted. I get nerve pain in two of my fingers when I move it certain ways.
- I would walk around often so my body doesn't get sore from sitting.
- It was strange once a week was here, I felt better with the pain. It was only on and off. I take medication only when needed. The gas pain was getting better but still bothered me.
- On the 8TH day of recovery my sister in law and niece were here visiting and I was able to get out of the house and go shopping for a few hours. It felt good to get out of the house but I had to remind myself not to bend over and pick up heavy items.
- On the 10TH day my sister in law and niece took the kids overnight since they don't see them because they live in another state. Gene and I went out to dinner and to the movies. It was nice to get out. I continue to wear the velcro belt especially when I go out of the house.
- Each day is improving. I can't wait until I am able to drive again. You don't realize how much you miss something until it is gone.
I went for my two week follow up at the doctors and I will give update in the next day or so.

rest of stay in hospital
Continuing from previous blog.The cafeteria brought my food to me for dinner which was still a liquid lunch.The nurse said I couldn't eat for a few hours since I got sick. I asked the nurse to put the Italian ice in the freezer because it was melting. I fell asleep for a few hours then woke up and I was starving. The nurse let me have two sips of water then two more sips 20 minutes later. Since I was able to keep the water down, she brought me some ice in which I could get my apple juice cold. I also had some beef broth which was pretty good but I didn't finish it and ate some graham crackers. I was still hooked up to Morphine through the IV and would continue to push the button when I didn't feel well.
The new nurse which changed shifts in the late afternoon continued to come into my room every 2-3 hours to check all my vital signs. I started to get uncomfortable with my bladder. The feeling was compared to an elephant standing on my stomach. I had to call the nurse in to check my catheter. She said it was getting stuck on the side of my walls and the urine wasn't flowing out properly. I know this sounds horrible and gross but I am letting you know why I felt the extra pressure. I hope no-one has to go through this process. It happened a few more times through-out the night. I tried to move the tube myself but it didn't seem to work as well when the nurse fixed it. I brushed my teeth in bed and watched some TV and fell asleep. At midnight I was woken up again for all the lovely torcher they give you in the hospital for your vital signs: change IV fluid, measure urine volume, blood pressure, oxygen level, oral temperature. Each time the nurse came in they also had me blow into this breathing hose machine (forgot what it is called) ten times to help my oxygen which is usually a normal routine when your in the hospital. They said do it every hour or when you remember. This helps your lungs not to fill up with fluid and get your oxygen back to the normal count. I had the pulse indicator on my finger since I came out of surgery.
Okay we lost power for 1/2 day so another delay in blogging.
I also had to wear leg cuffs on both of my legs to help the blood circulation flow since I was unable to get out of bed. The two nurses who came in at midnight introduced themselves while they did my vitals again and they were changing shifts. I had to get out of bed just to stand and get my body moving since I've been in bed since 7:00am. She took off the leg circulation cuffs and helped me up. Wow that was painful! I had to hold onto the railing and she took my hand to help me up. I didn't think I would have this much pain.I have five tiny incisions across my stomach. Two on the right side of my belly button, two on my left side of the belly button and they also went though my belly button. I just stood for 3-4 minutes, moved my body and laid back down. She had to put the circulation cuffs back on my legs, IV stays in until I leave but she let me take off the finger pulse. Yea, one less thing attached to my body. I was in alot of pain with my right shoulder. It was hurting without even moving it. I think I slept wrong and it was tensed up. I mentioned it to the nurse and she gave me more medication. The nurse mentioned for this surgery they had to pump air into my stomach which causes alot of gas. I went back to sleep and was woken back up at 2:30am for the usual check. No sleep in the hospital. I went back to sleep again and was woken up at 5:45am for my vital signs again before this nurse had to go home. She also had to withdraw blood to get my cbc count before I could go home today. Since I had an IV in both arms (one working, other one in vein and ready for an emergency) she decided to draw the blood on top of my hand since it was a small needle. About 30 minutes later the chief resident came into my room to see how I was feeling and he also did an exam. My OBGYN Oncologist was going to be at Yale hospital today and my OBGYN wasn't going to be at my hospital until the evening shift so the chief resident was going to release me to go home. He gave the nurse orders to keep me on the fluid IV but to take me off the Morphine and put me on oral pain medication when needed. He wanted to get me ready to go home. He said he also needed me to get out of bed and walk around the unit. He had to wait for the blood results to come back and said I probably wouldn't go home after lunch time. He had to go into surgery and would be back later.
I stayed up and all the doctors started visiting me. The anesthesia doctor that was in the surgery room with me came in to check on me as well as a nurse from surgery and one of the OBGYN that works in my doctors office stopped by. I ordered breakfast which I could go back to normal food but was told not to order anything heavy like an omelet. I placed an order for a muffin, apple juice, cereal, and english muffin with butter. The food was okay but not eating much in two days, I didn't have much of an appetite. The next shift nurse came in and checked my vitals again and she had to take some more blood before I go home. I asked her if there was a problem and she said no that my cbc count came back and was good but the doctor wanted to know my electrolyte's. She removed the extra IV that was in my right arm. Each nurse always asked me if I have trouble with IV's and weren't sure where they can withdraw blood since I had lymph nodes removed during my breast surgery. Since I had the same amount removed on each armpit area, it didn't matter what arm to use. It seemed like my left arm was easier to get blood but she didn't want to use it since the IV was still there.
She tried to draw blood in my left arm two times and couldn't do it. She had to call in another nurse to draw the blood. She saw a good vein to draw blood from but also had trouble. She had to move the needle around to get the blood flowing. My arm looked like I went through a war zone. She also removed the catheter which was another relief and removed the circulation cuffs off my legs. It was great to have these removed but I had to go to the bathroom several times because all of the fluid would go right through my body and it was difficult to get out of bed and take the IV with me into the bathroom. Nothing was easy! She gave me a Percocet for the pain and said I will also alternate Motrin 800 for the pain. My husband and kids called me before they left for school and work. It was nice to speak with them. The nurse returned and I was able to get up and wash up my body and move around. I felt 70% better than last night. I still had pain but was able to get around once I was assisted out of bed. I moved slowly around by myself in the room. My OBGYN called me to see how I was feeling and asked if I had any questions. She wanted to review my medical because she didn't think I remember much when she was speaking with me in the recovery room. She explained the surgery went well and no initial signs if Cancer but I did have some endometriosis. She did review all the information with my husband which he told me. She didn't want me to drive for two weeks. I would make an appointment with the OBGYN Oncologist for a 2 week follow up and see my OBGYN in 4 weeks. She mentioned to leave the bandages cover over the incision areas but I can change them when they come off. They were just normal bandages. She feels confident and feels we still made the right decision that I had a hysterectomy. I agreed with her. I am tired of worrying and want to be Cancer free! I watched some TV and took a short nap waiting to be released to go home. A few hours later the nurse returned and wanted me to walk around the until so she pushed the IV as I walked. I moved slowly but was able to walk. The only good outcome that I was still in the hospital was I was resting, wathcing TV and taking short naps. It ended being a very long afternoon. I wasn't discharged right away. I didn't want Gene to sit around so I told him I would call him when I am ready to get picked up. He kept checking in with me to see what's taking so long. The kids had an early dismissal from school today since they only had 2 days left for the year. The bus would get them home by 2:00 which I thought I would be home and Gene would get them off the bus. I called my mom to ask her to get them off the bus and watch them until we get out. The nurse kept telling me the doctor is in surgery and we have to wait for his release. I started to get itchy in the room. By now my TV was shut off since we only paid for 24 hours so I listened to the music and relaxed my eyes. I had a women stop by with a cart for snacks (I guess to purchase) and the women to see if I want to renew my TV but I just wanted to go home and not be bothered..The nurse returned and said the doctor was on the floor but got called back into surgery and didn't know when he will get back. Boy, was I mad because I think he had enough time to discharge the other women and not me! My fluid was running out and the nurse said I could be released from the IV and fluid. I was a free women now with nothing attached to my body but no paperwork to go home.
Gene called me and said he was coming down to get me and hopefully I would be discharged soon. About twenty minutes later the next shift nurse came in and said they were going to have another OBGYN nurse release me to go home. Why they couldn't do this several hours before? I called Gene and he was already arriving at the hospital. He came up to the room. The nurse went over all my paperwork, gave me some more pain medication to take since it was time and gave me prescriptions for Motrin 800 and Percocet. I was finally wheeled out of the hospital at 4:00 PM. Yea on my way home.
This chapter is so long that I will write another blog how I have been feeling since I've been home tomorrow.

She said it was getting stuck on the side of my walls and the urine wasn't flowing out properly. I know this sounds horrible and gross but I am letting you know why I felt the extra pressure. I hope no-one has to go through this process. It happened a few more times through-out the night. I tried to move the tube myself but it didn't seem to work as well when the nurse fixed it. I brushed my teeth in bed and watched some TV and fell asleep. At midnight I was woken up again for all the lovely torcher they give you in the hospital for your vital signs: change IV fluid, measure urine volume, blood pressure, oxygen level, oral temperature. Each time the nurse came in they also had me blow into this breathing hose machine (forgot what it is called) ten times to help my oxygen which is usually a normal routine when your in the hospital. They said do it every hour or when you remember. This helps your lungs not to fill up with fluid and get your oxygen back to the normal count. I had the pulse indicator on my finger since I came out of surgery.
Okay we lost power for 1/2 day so another delay in blogging.
I also had to wear leg cuffs on both of my legs to help the blood circulation flow since I was unable to get out of bed. The two nurses who came in at midnight introduced themselves while they did my vitals again and they were changing shifts. I had to get out of bed just to stand and get my body moving since I've been in bed since 7:00am. She took off the leg circulation cuffs and helped me up. Wow that was painful! I had to hold onto the railing and she took my hand to help me up. I didn't think I would have this much pain.I have five tiny incisions across my stomach. Two on the right side of my belly button, two on my left side of the belly button and they also went though my belly button. I just stood for 3-4 minutes, moved my body and laid back down. She had to put the circulation cuffs back on my legs, IV stays in until I leave but she let me take off the finger pulse. Yea, one less thing attached to my body. I was in alot of pain with my right shoulder. It was hurting without even moving it. I think I slept wrong and it was tensed up. I mentioned it to the nurse and she gave me more medication. The nurse mentioned for this surgery they had to pump air into my stomach which causes alot of gas. I went back to sleep and was woken back up at 2:30am for the usual check. No sleep in the hospital. I went back to sleep again and was woken up at 5:45am for my vital signs again before this nurse had to go home. She also had to withdraw blood to get my cbc count before I could go home today. Since I had an IV in both arms (one working, other one in vein and ready for an emergency) she decided to draw the blood on top of my hand since it was a small needle. About 30 minutes later the chief resident came into my room to see how I was feeling and he also did an exam. My OBGYN Oncologist was going to be at Yale hospital today and my OBGYN wasn't going to be at my hospital until the evening shift so the chief resident was going to release me to go home. He gave the nurse orders to keep me on the fluid IV but to take me off the Morphine and put me on oral pain medication when needed. He wanted to get me ready to go home. He said he also needed me to get out of bed and walk around the unit. He had to wait for the blood results to come back and said I probably wouldn't go home after lunch time. He had to go into surgery and would be back later.
I stayed up and all the doctors started visiting me. The anesthesia doctor that was in the surgery room with me came in to check on me as well as a nurse from surgery and one of the OBGYN that works in my doctors office stopped by. I ordered breakfast which I could go back to normal food but was told not to order anything heavy like an omelet. I placed an order for a muffin, apple juice, cereal, and english muffin with butter. The food was okay but not eating much in two days, I didn't have much of an appetite. The next shift nurse came in and checked my vitals again and she had to take some more blood before I go home. I asked her if there was a problem and she said no that my cbc count came back and was good but the doctor wanted to know my electrolyte's. She removed the extra IV that was in my right arm. Each nurse always asked me if I have trouble with IV's and weren't sure where they can withdraw blood since I had lymph nodes removed during my breast surgery. Since I had the same amount removed on each armpit area, it didn't matter what arm to use. It seemed like my left arm was easier to get blood but she didn't want to use it since the IV was still there.
She tried to draw blood in my left arm two times and couldn't do it. She had to call in another nurse to draw the blood. She saw a good vein to draw blood from but also had trouble. She had to move the needle around to get the blood flowing. My arm looked like I went through a war zone. She also removed the catheter which was another relief and removed the circulation cuffs off my legs. It was great to have these removed but I had to go to the bathroom several times because all of the fluid would go right through my body and it was difficult to get out of bed and take the IV with me into the bathroom. Nothing was easy! She gave me a Percocet for the pain and said I will also alternate Motrin 800 for the pain. My husband and kids called me before they left for school and work. It was nice to speak with them. The nurse returned and I was able to get up and wash up my body and move around. I felt 70% better than last night. I still had pain but was able to get around once I was assisted out of bed. I moved slowly around by myself in the room. My OBGYN called me to see how I was feeling and asked if I had any questions. She wanted to review my medical because she didn't think I remember much when she was speaking with me in the recovery room. She explained the surgery went well and no initial signs if Cancer but I did have some endometriosis. She did review all the information with my husband which he told me. She didn't want me to drive for two weeks. I would make an appointment with the OBGYN Oncologist for a 2 week follow up and see my OBGYN in 4 weeks. She mentioned to leave the bandages cover over the incision areas but I can change them when they come off. They were just normal bandages. She feels confident and feels we still made the right decision that I had a hysterectomy. I agreed with her. I am tired of worrying and want to be Cancer free! I watched some TV and took a short nap waiting to be released to go home. A few hours later the nurse returned and wanted me to walk around the until so she pushed the IV as I walked. I moved slowly but was able to walk. The only good outcome that I was still in the hospital was I was resting, wathcing TV and taking short naps. It ended being a very long afternoon. I wasn't discharged right away. I didn't want Gene to sit around so I told him I would call him when I am ready to get picked up. He kept checking in with me to see what's taking so long. The kids had an early dismissal from school today since they only had 2 days left for the year. The bus would get them home by 2:00 which I thought I would be home and Gene would get them off the bus. I called my mom to ask her to get them off the bus and watch them until we get out. The nurse kept telling me the doctor is in surgery and we have to wait for his release. I started to get itchy in the room. By now my TV was shut off since we only paid for 24 hours so I listened to the music and relaxed my eyes. I had a women stop by with a cart for snacks (I guess to purchase) and the women to see if I want to renew my TV but I just wanted to go home and not be bothered..The nurse returned and said the doctor was on the floor but got called back into surgery and didn't know when he will get back. Boy, was I mad because I think he had enough time to discharge the other women and not me! My fluid was running out and the nurse said I could be released from the IV and fluid. I was a free women now with nothing attached to my body but no paperwork to go home.
Gene called me and said he was coming down to get me and hopefully I would be discharged soon. About twenty minutes later the next shift nurse came in and said they were going to have another OBGYN nurse release me to go home. Why they couldn't do this several hours before? I called Gene and he was already arriving at the hospital. He came up to the room. The nurse went over all my paperwork, gave me some more pain medication to take since it was time and gave me prescriptions for Motrin 800 and Percocet. I was finally wheeled out of the hospital at 4:00 PM. Yea on my way home.
This chapter is so long that I will write another blog how I have been feeling since I've been home tomorrow.

waking up from surgery
I woke up from surgery in the recovery room but was really drowsy. If you haven't had any surgeries before, its a strange feeling. Your awake one minute then fall back asleep and then process goes back and fourth for awhile until the anesthesia wears off. The nurse asked me to tell her my level of pain and I am not sure why I answered initially a 6 out of a 10. I fell back to sleep and was in a lot of pain so when I woke back up I told her my pain is now a 10. In the past Gene was able to come into the recovery room but they didn't have him there. Maybe because my other surgeries were in a different part of the hospital and this surgery was in the main operating room. All I can remember was a man next to me, couldn't see him there was a drape between us, yelling he had to go to the bathroom. The nurse kept telling him he had a catheter but apparently he didn't understand. I was so drug up that he was getting me an aggravated with the screaming. I was finally wheeled off to my room.
I was still in and out of it on the way to the room. I had a private room on the maternity ward. (which is where I stayed last time). A few minutes later I do remember my husband coming in to see me. My nurse on duty said I was already on Morphine but gave me additional pain medication in my IV. It took awhile before I felt better. I was still in pain but it was tolerable. Gene told me the good news from the doctors: "there was no signs of cancer during surgery and the internal walls inside me looked well". I sort of remember my doctors talking to me in the recovery room but couldn't tell you what they said, it was like a dream. Gene stayed with me for awhile then went down to the lobby to buy a card to activate the TV and get my backpack out of the car. (yes nothing is for free $5 for 24 hrs of TV) I felt better by the time he was back. I was on a liquid diet and for lunch they served me a bowl of chicken broth, red jello, tea, and cranberry juice. I didn't have any solid food to to eat since Sunday evening. I started a liquid diet on Monday. The food didn't even taste that well. I ate the jello and half of the chicken broth. I tried the cranberry juice but didn't care for it. I called my mom to let her know I was okay and to see if she would like to visit me in the hospital since Gene was going home to bring the kids back. Gene left around 3:00 to get the kids off the bus. He was going to pick them up along with my mom and come back to the hospital before dinner time. I couldn't get out of the bed. I was hooked up to an IV for fluid and for my pain medication. I also had a catheter which isn't the most comfortable feeling. I took a short nap while Gene left. The nurse comes into the room every 2-3 hours for my vital signs. She had good timing and came into my room before Gene and kids were back. She took my blood pressure, my oxygen, checked my incisions, checked my IV, my temperature, emptied my catheter (which they have to keep track of the amount of fluid) and checked if I was bleeding. The good news I had very little bleeding after the surgery. They had me wear a pad but I only bled like a quarter size. I believe the robotic helped for less bleeding. I couldn't wait not to wear a pad again in my life unless when I am older and have to wear depends. (lets hope not).
My mom, Gene and the kids came back to visit me. It was nice to see them. We talked and watched some TV. Both of the kids made me cards before I went into the hospital wishing me good luck. Emily made another card and brought it to me to the hospital. They were at the hospital about hour and half. Right before they were ready to leave I wasn't feeling well. I turned to Gene and said I am going to get sick and I need a bucket. I called the nurse to bring me one. My mom took the kids out of the room. I still had my tray from lunch and I had to use that because the bucket didn't arrive in time. I guess the jello didn't like me. I felt good afterwards but now they banded me to eat or drink anything for 2 hours. Gene, mom, and kids left to let me rest and they needed to go get some dinner. I kept the bucket near by but never had to use it again.

I will continue blogging with all the details while I was at the hospital and let everybody know how I am feeling but I have to tell everybody the following news.

Monica's details from pre-op surgery
Thanks to my husband for updating and giving an extensive blog entry while I was in the hospital. I am going to give all the details. while I was in the hospital The blogging is my dairy for all the information to be documented and give complete details.
We arrived at the hospital just before 6:30am and they took me right in. I didn't even get a chance to sit down. The nurse said she is going to get me ready for surgery and then will have my husband come into the pre-op room with me after we get settled in. She gave me a gown to put on as well as socks and asked me take everything off. This gown was bulky. I felt like a was wearing a parachute. The reason why it was bulky is because its design to be hooked up for heat if needed during surgery. I believe the company was called Bare Claw who design it. Each pocket had a flap with attachments for the hose. I was hot in it because it was lined inside. She returned and asked when was my last menstrual cycle was. I forgot to look at the calendar and at this point I wasn't thinking about any more menstrual cycles. She asked me to give a urine sample because they wanted to verify I wasn't pregnant. I guess they didn't want a law suit before the procedure. As I returned, there was two individuals waiting for me from the anesthesia department. They introduced themselves and said they were shadowing the pre-op area that day. They were from Yale residents since Bridgeport hospital is associated with Yale hospital. There was a male and female and they explained they were going to insert the IV to get ready for the surgery. In my past surgeries, the IV was inserted on the top of my hand. The man who inserted the IV said he likes the vein that runs along the side of your wrist on your thumb side. He said my vein was pumped and looked good. As he inserted the IV no blood was coming out. He had to move the needle around to get the blood to take. As he moved it, I felt a sharp pain on top of my hand into my fingers. He said sorry and the needle probably hit a nerve. These two individuals were not going into the operating room. I should of known to ask for experience anesthesia since I always seem to have some issues with IV's. The pain did go away but I felt the IV was in an awkward area. Gene did arrive in the room after the IV was inserted. As we waited we had a few nurses review all my medical information and introduced them selves since they were going to be in the surgery room. The two anesthesia representatives also came in and reviewed how the medicine works and made sure we had no questions. My OBGYN came in and said they were just about ready to get started. We reviewed what was going to be happening during the surgery. I didn't realize that my cervix was also going to be removed. She said its small and attached to the uterus and since I am not having any more children that I won't miss or need it. I was having my both of my ovaries, both fallopian tubes, uterus, and cervix removed. She explained during surgery they would send down samples from each area to test for cancer. The lab would freeze the organs then test a small section to check for cancer. She also explained that the organs would be sent out to the lab for an extensive review after the surgery and would take a week to get the final results back. I guess I never thought about how they tested the organs. The fluid and flexibility wouldn't allow for correct sample so that's why they freeze the organs first. My OBGYN Oncologist stopped by and said they were ready in the operating room. I gave my husband a kiss and I was wheeled off. They inserted some sleepy medicine in my IV as I was going into the operating room. Once I got into the OR room everything was blurry and I was out in about a minute. I didn't even get a chance to see the robot.

Surgery day
Monica's surgery went really well it took about 2 1/2 hours to complete from the time they started which was around 7:45 AM. The doctors said that they did some initial tests for cancer while she was in surgery and they did not see or find any cancer. This is great news ! Now they will still have to send everything out to the lab for more extensive tests that take up to a week to find out the results but this is a really great sign and they seem to be pretty confident that she should be OK.
They did say that she did have a bit of endometriosis so overall the doctors still feel confident about their recommendation for Monica to take this aggressive approach in having a full hysterectomy.
Obviously Monica was in quite a bit a pain when I first saw her an hour and a half after the surgery was over as they were asking her on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest of pain where she was and she keep telling them a 10 initially. So they had her on morphine and gave her some other strong pain killer which eventually seemed to really help and control the pain.
So by the time I left to go get the kids off the bus around 3:00 PM and bring them back to see her Monica was feeling much better but they would still not let her eat anything other than clear liquids due to the medicine. So I brought the kids and Monica's mother Kathy back for a quick visit which was nice for her and the kids to get to see each other for a bit. Right before we left Monica had some raspberry juice which unfortunately did not want to stay down for long and ended up come back up. So the nurse said she has to stay on just water or ice chips for awhile more.
The kids and I called her first thing this morning before sending them off to school and she said she was feeling a bit better and was cleared to have some food and had just ordered some breakfast. The doctors told her that she will be able to go home today sometime around noon I plan on going to pick her up.
So now the recovery process begins again which the doctors said it will be a good 2 weeks before she can really move around quite a bit, however knowing Monica just like the last time she had a major surgery she does not like to stay immobile very long. So we will take it slow and she how it goes.
So in closing as Monica's guest blogger today I would just like to say that once again I am absolutely amazed by her with both the physical and mental strength she has shown through this whole process once again. Aside from that first day of being upset about finding out that her blood count marker for Ovarian cancer had been continually rising and that she would have to have this surgery and face the possible prospect of having to fight yet another battle against cancer she never once said why me or felt sorry for herself. She just seems to have this unbelievable steel resolve that she was not going to let this affect her life and more than she needed it to and that she was prepared to take the aggressive approach to do whatever needed to be done to win one more battle if that was the cards that fate had dealt her. She is an amazing person that I think many of us can draw some level of inspiration from. I am proud of her, love her and so glad that everything has went well with this surgery and that she appears to have finally caught a much deserved break in regards to cancer.
I know I speak for Monica as well when I say thank you all for your never ending continued support, love and friendship you have shown our family. I can not tell you all how much it really makes a difference for us.

pre-op exam/surgery
I had my pre-op exam on Thursday June 10, 2010. I had to go to the hospital for this exam. I checked in at the admitting office and that's where all the services were to be performed. She registered all my information and gave me a beeper/buzzer when my turned would be. My buzzer went off and I went into the office. As I entered the nurse told me to have a seat in the room on the right, well I thought it was a bit strange since there was another nurse in there withdrawing blood on a patient but I sat in the other chair like she told me. The nurse said she made a mistake and sent me into a different room, I knew this was a bad start. She came into the room and introduced herself and started to with drawl my blood. She took one vial of blood and I was wondering why so little since I usually take around four vials. She turned around to finish the paperwork and I said how do they know this is my blood work. She picked up the vial and said your name is right here on the sticker. Well guess what it wasn't my name! How can she mixed up my name with an Asian name? She immediately said, I always ask to verify birth dates and I am so sorry I didn't today. I was so angry! I also told her I was told that I needed an EKG and a chest x-ray She handed me a magazine and said here read this while I go straighten out the paperwork. She returned and I was correct that four more vials were needed to be taken. She claimed that the wrong beeper number was written incorrectly on my paperwork. The Asian name that was on my vial was the person who came in after me. If they were planning to take her first, that would add more fuel to the fire. I asked her to with drawl from the other arm for the new blood. She couldn't find a good vein so she had to go back to the other arm. She did it right under the last insertion. What a winner she is! She now verified my name and date of birth. She sent in the anesthesia nurse to get my paperwork started for this department for the day of surgery. I spoke with her about ten minutes. The original nurse came back into the room and said she didn't get a chance to verify if I needed a chest x-ray and EKG since no order was placed. What was she doing all this time!!! She left to go call my doctor's office to see if I needed these test. She returned and said I was told the incorrect information that I don't need them. I had to give an urine test. I asked her why I couldn't gone to the lab by my house since all I did was some blood work and urine test. She said that one of the vials needed to be done at the hospital for the blood bank. I was just glad to get out of this office!!!
I am having my surgery less than 11 hours from now. My surgery is scheduled for 7:30 am and I have to be there at 6:30am. My mom is coming over to get the kids up for school and onto the bus. I found out this am that I couldn't eat anything for the entire day except for clear liquids. Wow I was misunderstood. I thought it was after 2:00 when I had to drink the laxative. I had some coffee which is clear liquid ate a cookie with it and started my no food day. I am been working at a deli to help out and today was my last day. I wanted to go in to keep my mind busy. As I was driving there, I realized that here I can't eat food and I am working around food. It wasn't too bad since I was only there for four hours.I drank the laxative drink. It wasn't too bad but had a strong tart taste. I am surviving the day on chicken broth, Popsicles, water, and coffee. I just want this over at this point. I will have my husband update my blog so everybody knows how the surgery went. Chat with all of you in a few days. Smile and have a wonderful week!

told the kids
6/6/10 We told the kids on Sunday that I will be going into the hospital. We explained that mom will have some female organs removed that she no longer needs since she is not having any more babies. We didn't explain the organs in detail. We didn't mention cancer at this time because we don't know the final outcome. Let's pray the outcome is great news! We also told them a robot will be involved with my operation. We showed them the videos that I posted on my last blog posting. They didn't have any questions. My daughter got upset when I told her that I can't be at the end of her school party since I will be recovering. She later asked me " I thought you were done with your operation". I also explained that grandma Kathy will get them up and ready for school on 6/15/10 the day of my surgery since I have to be at the hospital for 6:30 am We also told them, I might have to spend the night but we won't know until that day.
